About The AI Face Redaction Studio

Protecting the privacy and anonymity of individuals in photographs is critical for journalists, whistleblowers, and everyday users posting online. However, manually drawing black boxes over faces is tedious, and uploading sensitive photos to an online blurring tool is a massive privacy risk.

The AI Face Redaction Studio solves this by downloading a powerful MediaPipe Vision AI model directly into your browser. It scans your image locally, instantly detects the bounding boxes of all human faces, and applies your choice of redaction (heavy blur, pixelation, or solid black bars). It processes instantly, securely, and completely offline.

How to Use

  1. Upload a photograph containing one or more people.
  2. The local AI will instantly scan the image and draw glowing red boxes over detected faces.
  3. Select your preferred redaction style: Blur, Pixelate, or Black Bar.
  4. Adjust the 'Intensity' slider to ensure the features are completely unrecognizable, then click 'Download Censoored Image'.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tool safe for whistleblowers and journalists?

Yes. The MediaPipe Vision AI model runs entirely client-side. Your sensitive, unredacted photographs never leave your device and are never sent to our servers.

Can the AI detect faces in profile or from the side?

The local model is highly sophisticated, but it performs best on faces looking generally toward the camera. Extreme angles or faces hidden in dark shadows may occasionally be missed.

Can a redacted face be 'unblurred' later?

No. When you export the image, the pixels of the face are permanently overwritten. It is cryptographically impossible for anyone to reverse the pixelation or black bars.
